A short history...
It was June 24, 1926 when the residents of Pomona met at the Old Pomona School to hear Henry Gabriel Sr., Kazimier Olubowicz, Edward Priebs and Charles M. Guenther, explain why Pomona needed a Fire Company of their own.  By the time this meeting was completed, the ground work for the Pomona Volunteer Fire Company, No. 3 had been laid.

At this meeting, chaired by Oceanville Fire Chief Charles Watson, ideas were submitted by Pomona residents on developing the third company in Galloway Township.  The first, Oceanville, was founded in 1924, the second, Germania, was founded in May, 1926.

The first matter of business was the election of officers.  They were Edward Priebs as President; Louis Filling, Sr. as Vice-President; Kazimier Olubowicz as Secretary; Charles M. Guenther as Treasurer, and Thomas Turner as Financial Secretary.

On July 1st, a parcel of land was donated by Charles Filling Sr. for the site of a proposed fire house.  The present fire house still exists on that same parcel of land.   In 1971, an addition was constructed in order to house the more modern and larger apparatus.

In 1926, the first piece of apparatus purchased for $350.00, was a used Cadillac chassis on which the Fire Co. mounted two used acid and soda chemical tanks purchased from the City of Philadelphia for $50.00.  The location of this apparatus is unknown.

In 1929, the Pomona Fire Company purchased their second piece of apparatus (below), a 1929 Hawn chemical wagon, which was later converted to a pumper.  Presently, this apparatus is in a state of disrepair in Tuckerton, NJ.

In 1946, the Fire Company acquired a 1946 Chevy pumper (below) from the U.S. Government.  It had a 500 GPM pump and carried 500 gallons of water.  In 1985, this pumper was purchased by a fire department in Cherry Creek, TN, where it resides today.

In 1956, the first new pumper (below) was purchased.  It was unique in that it utilized two separate pumps.  One pump was a 250 GPM pump that could be used while the vehicle as moving.   The other was a 750 GPM pump for fighting large fires.  The truck carried 1250 gallons of water and was first to utilize a one piece body.  Today, this vehicle is owned by Joseph Tortello of Egg Harbor Township.

In 1964, the Company purchased this GMC cab and chassis (below) with a Bruco body and a 350 GPM PTO driven pump.   It's primary use was to fight woods fires and supply water as it had a 1500 gallon tank capacity.   At the present time this apparatus is still in service in the state of Arkansas.

In 1972, the first yellow truck (below) was purchased.  It was a GMC cab and chassis with Bruco body.   It had a 750 GPM Waterous two stage pump and carried 750 gallons of water.  Presently, this vehicle is owned by Harrison Beverage Company.  It has been painted red.  It's primary duty is to quench the thirst of firefighters and it is known as "The Thirst Quencher Two".

1n 1972, this 1916 Garford (below) was acquired from the Sea View Country Club for the sum of one dollar.   A partial restoration was completed in time for the 50th Anniversary celebration in 1976.  In 1985, a complete restoration project was begun and took approximately 9 years to complete.  Today, this vehicle is used for Parades, Musters, and shows and has won numerous awards throughout the State.

In 1976, the Company acquired a 1965 Ford F-350 cab and chassis from Atlantic Electric (no picture available). This vehicle was outfitted to be utilized as a heavy rescue vehicle as the fire department had assumed rescue operation in 1975 from the Township Ambulance Squad.  This vehicle was sold to George Smyth, Jr. in 1990 and it's location is unknown.

In 1982, this Ford Cab (below) and chassis with a Grumman body was purchased.  Featuring a top mounted pump panel, the first of it's kind in Pomona, it carried 1000 gallons of water and utilized a Waterous two stage pump.  This was the first truck to use the white over yellow colors that are in use today.  Currently, this vehicle serves the village of National City, Illinois.

In 1987, Pomona purchased it's first custom pumper built by Pierce Manufacturing Co.  It carries 1000 gallons of water, has a top mounted pump panel, and a 1000 GPM Waterous two stage pump.

In 1990, a custom built Pierce Heavy Rescue Truck was purchased.   This was the first of it's kind in Atlantic County. This vehicle carries two sets of Jaws, to sets of O cutters, six rams and hi pressure air bags.  It features a 26Kw Wenco PTO generator, a 20 ft. light tower with 2-1000 and 2-500 watt quartz lights, and various other rescue equipment.  In addition to performing heavy rescue duties, it also serves as a command center for various Police and Fire operations in Galloway Township, when needed.

In 1995, the first fully enclosed custom pumper was purchased from Pierce.  It features a top mounted pump panel and a 1250 GPM Waterous two stage pump and carries 1000 gallons of water.  It also carries extrication equipment.

In 2000, the Company purchased a Ford F-350 four door, 4x4, diesel utility truck.  In addition to towing the Company antique, this vehicle is used to haul equipment to and from fire scenes and is the fourth piece of equipment to respond.

In 2006, the Company purchased a Dodge Durango.

Also, in 2006, the Company took delivery of Pierce Quint.
